What is still unknown is that the deficiency is either due to the disease or due to taking aspirin that might deplete vitamins B from the body.
It is understood that arthritis disease and tissue damage are due to the oxygen-reactive free radicals molecules. Researchers found that cells from damaged knee cartilage release great amounts of free radicals. To neutralize the free radicals arthritis sufferer needs vitamins C, E and Beta Carotenes.
Studies also shown that the risk of knee damage for those who have high vitamin C could be reduced by two thirds. Scientist recommends that in order to prevent arthritis 18 grams of vitamins C should be taken on a daily basis.
How to prevent Osteoarthritis and prednisone?
Both osteoarthritis and prednisone could cause thining of the bones. To counter the disease it is recommended to take vitamin D and Calcium.
Normally the bone fractures that happen to the elderly with arthritis is due to lack of vitamin D. Unhealthy diet and insufficient sunlight contribute to vitamin D deficiency.
Vitamin E is also an antooxidant and works the same way as vitamin C. According to the German Scientists vitamin E can help reduce pain. Good sources of vitamin E can be found in whole grains,corn oil, legumes and sunflower seed.
Some people uset copper as an alternative treatment for arthritis. They believe that copper can help to reduce arthritis pain but there is no scientific evidence so far as yet. In fact too much copper can make you sick.
Selenium deficiency could also cause a particular type of arthritis called Kashin-Bek disease. Selenium can be found in whole grains, fish and nuts and beans.
Zinc is also a good alternative treatment for arthritis. Zinc help to reduce pain, swelling and stiffness. Zinc can be found in cheese, tofu and oysters.
