Conventional solutions only give short-term relief of heartburn at the price of multiple secondary effects and are not much more than a stop-gap for more effective and better options to really bring long-term results. Thankfully, home remedies are available to give immediate relief for the greater part of heartburn sufferers when selected and applied properly. So how can home remedies allow you to stop heartburn? Tens of millions of patients all over the world would love to know after disappointments by the ineffective classical medicine solutions.

Heartburn is something that happens while eating or shortly afterwards. It’s a feeling of burning pain in the region of the chest or the throat. When it happens more than twice a week, it may be a sign that GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease), or to give it its other name, acid reflux, is present.

Gastric acids that attack the epithelial cells of the esophageal lining are the cause of the suffering known as heartburn. GERD is the pronounced result of the muscle (the lower esophageal sphincter) between the opening between the esophagus and the stomach, relaxing at the wrong time and allowing gastric acid to “reflux” or flow backwards from the stomach into the esophagus.

As time passes, recurrent acid reflux can do enough severe damage to the lower esophagus for it to pass into a condition called Barrett’s esophagus and even cancer. This explains why a speedy solution to stop GERD is required. Other than heartburn, acid reflux can also be recognized by a salty mouth taste, sensations of nausea, chronic hoarse voice, asthma as a nocturnal phenomenon and dry coughing.

Elements contributing to GERD can include:

1. Improper eating including meals that are too large with subsequent blockage of digestion, over stocking of toxins and over production of stomach acids.

2. For people who are overweight, this puts more pressure on the abdomen and thence on the stomach acids that leak back even more into the esophagus.

3. Poor sleep hygiene also damages the immune system.

However, simple and easy to obtain home remedies exist to remove symptoms of GERD, even if they do not go as far as to eradicate fundamental causes:

1. Natural honey (pure, unprocessed and unheated in 2 teaspoons,) ingested after a meal will lessen esophageal inflammation because of its well-known features of being antioxidant and antibiotic. It is also antibacterial and antiviral.

2. In a similar way, a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar on an empty stomach, taken once a day, will act as in intestinal cleanser via its antiseptic and antibiotic properties. It will also contribute to re-establishing the right acid alkaline balance in the intestines (acid reflux is often aggravated by excessive acidity in the intestines and in the blood).

3. Putting the entire surface of your bed on a slight incline, feet downwards, also helps. Replace the legs at the far end with shorter ones, or by raise the head of the bed with wooden blocks, for example. Lowering the foot of your bed by six to eight inches like this assists in keeping your esophagus free from gastric juices.

These methods can surely help to give immediate and safe relief, but they are not in themselves long-term solutions. The only solution for that is a full, holistic, all-natural treatment, to permanently eliminate your acid reflux ailment by addressing the root and often dissimulated causes of GERD.
